Hello. Currently renovating the first floor of my house. We relocated the kitchen. Doing so we had to move the pipe into the wall giving it some 90 degree elbows. Whenever someone uses the water on the 2nd floor there is a lot of noise from the water falling down the pipe and hitting that 90 degree turn (as show in my lovely diagram). Pipe that was used is 4 inch PVC.

Anyone have any possible solutions to eliminate the noise? Almost sounds like a waterfall (haha...)

Sorry for the diagram, not an artist.

Cast iron drain pipe is the absolute solution. Especially the riser and the low, long sweep elbow.
After doing one two storey house with ABS, I decided we would never do that again! Sheesh
And haven't in the last 44 years.
Cast iron pipe, riser clamps = professional plumbing.
Whoever put in plastic should be ashamed of themselves.

Thank you for your reply sir!
Would it be okay to use rubber couplings to join the cast iron pipes?

gregorymark, why was four inch pipe utilized?
For up to three bathrooms, three inch is all that is needed.
