have you tried plunger/wet rag in the overflow method pull the linkage out stuff the wet rag in and start plunging with a couple of inches of hot water in the tub

I have to agree with Fishscreener … First check the crossbars in the drain. That's where the hair catches. I use a forceps (like you see in Dr. shows) or a bent pick of some type to pull up hair. It may not look like a lot of hair, but it could be holding a big glob a few inches down. A few strands of hair can hold a pretty big glob to slow down draining. If you can break the hair on the cross bars the "blob" should flush down the drain. This is the first thing you should check before trying the rest of the ideas. I've been doing this for over 40 years and 90% of the time this resolves the issue.

Agree with above as first step. There are these simple "Hair Clog Tools" that make it easy to extract hair from the drains. They're generally about 18" long and make it easier to grab hair.

Looks like this...

If it does come to dumping a drain cleaner down the drain, I suggest following the instructions on the container.;)

I have to agree, that gel stuff works on those hairy clogs.
I have 2 women in my house that use the shower daily and it is impossible to catch all their hair before it goes down the drain. I only need to use the gel stuff when the snakes don't work. I think the hair gets clogged beyond the reach of the tools??? I gel it maybe once a year if that.

There is usually an access panel just behind the valves which will allow access to the drain. Our shower backs up to a bedroom closet and that is where our panel is. Good luck!
