Can someone help me figure out how to replace my check valve/shutoff valve combo? I bought a quiet one with shutoff valve but can't figure out how to purge the water from the current valve without making a mess everywhere.

Are you referring to the water coming back down the discharge line when you remove the existing units?
If so, (not that I have done before) I would shut off ball valve, then disassemble the check valve, remove check device, reassemble check, open ball valve to allow to drain back into sump. Sump pump should be turned off, of course.

I thought my way sounded pretty good but since I've never tried it, I can't comment on it.

Your way will work.
You just have to take into account that you are in a clients home
And anything you can do to be clean you have to do.
People are funny, Your way, acceptable and perfectly safe
has the chance of causing a little spillage
That will get some wacka doo bent out of shape and a call to the main office
By the time you hear about it, the 1 cup of spillage is now a flooded basement of fecal matter and the insurance co has been called.

CLEAN, is what you must be. Check out Mr Davids old posts He wraps visqueen walls.floor
to keep from a splash occuring

Mr Davids only has about 4,000+ posts.

Don't know what made me do it but I googled Mr Davids and came up with a Mr Davids flooring company.:D
