Usual story. Circa 1960 house with drum traps for tubs. Have found articles and videos on replacement with p-trap but unable to find anything relating to when there is a third connection going to a vent.
Also, this appears to be lead. Does that complicate things ?

That looks like the setup. How do I tie the vent pipe back into the P-trap after I take the drum out ?

The drain runs to a bigger lead looking pipe, that I assume is under the toilet, which attaches to an , I assume, cast iron main outlet. Is all of the dark grey lead ?

One problem is that the tub wall backs to another bathroom with a full vanity in the way .

I find it hard to believe they were still installing lead drum traps in new homes in 1960.
 
I'm understanding that all of the lead needs to be removed and replaced with PVC ? I can't just remove the trap itself and replace with a P-trap ?
 
There isn't some kind of PVC to lead coupler ? The pipe leading into the long drain pipe at a Y is also coming from a second tub with a drum trap.
 
Hmm. Much bigger project then I anticipated. It looks like the pipe directly under the toilet would have to be replaced also.
 
Lead bends used for toilets are different there are ways that you can reuse them or attach a coupling on to them
 
After pondering this I think I'll call a pro on this one :) Thank you for your advice.
