I had the same window battle with my wife a few years ago. I gutted a bathroom and changed a shower stall to bathtub with tile surround. This put the window in the tile area and I wanted to block it off but the wife used her Veto power. I was able to slip tar paper under the window. Left a fair gap between tile and vinyl so I could get a good bead of caulk in there.

Once the hardibacker was screwed to the wall, fiberglass mesh was added, then a thin coat of thinset (not sheetrock mud) was used to strengthen the joints. Today, Redgard will be painted everywhere, including the concrete floor, before the tile is set in thinset. This guy is a fanatic about any water intrusion, and so far, I have nothing to say about him except he is good.

excellent
I only ask because i am looking out for you

I have answered a hundred posts about water damage because of sheet rock walls and mud

Well, bathroom is almost done. Just need to connect the sink drains and new supply lines, and obviously a new shower door. Now moving onto the floors in the rest of the house. 20190521_203205.jpg 20190521_203141.jpg

Love the look Mark. Very clean. Shower seats, aka hang over stools, are a must for me now on remodels.

Looks like you got a really nice job done for you. Its always nice to see before and after pictures.

Well, we can officially check off this bathroom remodel as completed. After a week delay because the glass company forgot to add the water spot avoidance coating on it, the glass was installed. I never installed the grab bar because we couldn't decide where to put it, and the glass installer talked me out of placing it horizontally below the window, due to being an elbow smacked every time I wash my hair. Here is the final posts... now moving forward to bathroom #2.20190606_201824.jpg 20190606_185947.jpg 20190606_185958.jpg
