Hello!
I just ran into a situation and hoping you all can provide some insight. My family and I just moved into a new home. The basement has hydronic in floor heating and I am wondering if there is any way that I could put a bathroom into the basement. I asked a local plumber who was installing some fixtures for us and he said that no one would touch a project like that due to the hydronic heating. Is his assessment accurate? If so, is there any other creative ways that we might be able to get a bathroom in that basement?

Any thoughts you could provide would be much appreciated!

Thanks Frodo! That Saniflo unit is an interesting idea. Do you happen to have any experience with them?

I really appreciate the info.

Ok, well thanks again frodo. That gives me something to research. If anyone does have experience with these, I would love to hear about it.

I can say for certain that I wouldn’t attempt to cut that floor. It will just make for an absolute disaster of a job. Forget about it.

I’ve installed plenty of sani flos. When installed correctly and properly vented they work well. I dislike putting the shower on a base because you lose head room, but it’s necessary to grade the pipe.

Thanks for the additional info Matt. Do know if it's possible to put a tub in when using one of those systems? Or would a guy be better off just sticking with a shower?

Thanks again Frodo and Matt! I've been doing a little more research. I'll be honest, initially I was really skeptical about the idea but the more I look around, the more comfortable I'm getting with the whole thing. Looks like a very real option for us. Other than the head room issue with the shower, is there anything else to be concerned with?

I'm trying to find some local guys with experience with the system. Might have someone come take a look soon to get an estimate on installing.

Have you thought of making it a full bath with a toilet? The pumps are designed to handle solids. I think you would need a rear discharge toilet and it would have to be on a platform so maybe not worth the expense but something to consider.

I have installed 6 or 7 in the past 10 years and havent gotten a call back on any of them

I put in a saniflow toilet system and we raised the shower just enough to have fall to the system. You can put a tub & shower
combo on one side and a vanity on the other side if you want. My son and daughter- in -law love it.

Good to know, thanks for the input everyone! I think we are getting close and will probably pull the trigger on this soon.

I put in a bath using a Liberty Ascent II macerating toilet for a friend a few years ago. I liked it. I don't know how it compares to the Saniflo.
I don't believe they've has any issues.
A few things to keep in mind:
Your individual fixtures must be vented per your code.
The shower will have to be on a platform at least 6" high to allow for the 2" p-trap and proper slope. Make sure you have the headroom.
You must have a proper vent connected to the stack vent or vented directly outside. You cannot use an AAV.
