Hi there, I open this thread so we can have a place to speak about safety -a subject I am more than interested on. I was not able to find a proper one, so there you go. Assuming that professional plumbers do work with proper safety measures, what about the rest of you?

this man would be asked to leave the job site, because of safety reasons
he would told to come back when his hard hat would fit correctly on his head.
we WOULD NOT tell him to get a hair cut,

Frodo don't forget proper shoring and plating of trenches and soil types.

I got a call last week that I am being sued because someone tripped over one of my plates in the street. It was properly installed patched and signs were up.

We should hold classes for the general public about safety while walking. Had a guy come a half second from falling in our trench a month ago. Had to push him out of the way. He was staring at his phone, ducked under our caution tape without even looking to see what it was. Walked right past me on my tractor and straight to the trench because his car was parked on the other side. He didn't even know he walked into a construction site. Of course he could have sued and won because it is my job to make sure he is safe.

Man, You brought up a subjct that is really getting bad.
people now are walking around EVERYWHERE. looking at the damn phone not paying attention to cars

Or in walmart while I am shopping, My wife is in a wheelchair, These idiots just walk out in front of us.get hit with the chair

last Christmas, I went to the kid section/toys and got a pink girls horn that mounts on bike handle bars

the kind with the squeeze bulb, Used that to navigate thru the zombee shoppers

If you have the tape up around the dig area, AND around your machine.

it is their fault not yours

This is California. My insurance company will write a fat check and then charge me more.

It happened a couple years ago. When I asked them they told me it was easier for them to write a check and up my rates than to have lawyers look at it and possibly go to court.

Frodo, damn you. I was wiping that bug on your avatar for 10 seconds before realizing it was something you installed.

Chris, my lawyer will be contacting you since I had awful thoughts about tripping over your plates. Hey, it IS the American way now, right?

After all, we are the land of the Entitled.

2 problems with that.

1 is insurance, if he is hurt, insurance can refuse to pay the claim because he was not wearing his PPE according to industry standards

2 is osha and their big ass fine if they walk on the job and catch him.

my bro in law is osha in tenn.
I love the boy, but he is a safety anal retentive sob.

ROTFL, this reminds me of a buddy of mine, a bonafide Jamaican with ALMOST that much hair! We worked together at the last company I worked for.

His dreds drove the VP of Operations NUTS! Used to ***** him out all of the time about it. Gar, my buddy, had been trying to get a raise for a year. VP said, OK, get a haircut, I will give you a raise. Gar says "OK". Gets his raise, and then never gets the haircut. That SOB VP was PISSED.

Plumbing is not an easy task. In plumbing, we have to keep eye on our safety with doing quality work. Here are the safety tips and precautions for safe plumbing -
  1. All the plumbing work activity should be done in a systematic manner and as per the pre-planning and specification.
  2. All work should be done with proper tools.
  3. A good contractor should maintain a first-aid box on the site.
  4. Arrange the proper lighting and ventilation when he is doing plumbing.
  5. Be cautious of poisonous gases from traps and chambers.
A professional plumbers prevent the small or fatal accident and save the life. :)

Then, there are the dogs and the customers. An independent plumber I know takes on one charity job per month through his church. He went into a house long occupied by two disabled persons and two giant Irish wolfhounds. The toilet supply had been leaking for so long it had rotted the floor and the subfloor. He stopped the leak, told them the entire floor had to be replaced ASAP. On the way out, he was bitten by one of the wolfhounds and the following week was sued for leaving an unsafe condition after his repair. He's rereading the Book of Job; looking for something to restore his faith.
