I just purchased a home and I am currently renovating my laundry room. The previous owner had a shower in the laundry room... I have removed the shower and rerouted the hot and cold supply to a washer box. Instead of jackhammering up the floor, can I just use the current shower drain and trap for my clothes washer? It is 2" PVC. Thanks for the help!

so are you planning on sticking the discharge hose into the drain in the floor? When the machine discharges water is going to come pouring out of the drain because the washer pump will fill the 2" line in a few seconds. Washers need a 2" trap with a 18-48 inch riser or a laundry sink. Do it right you wont regret it.

Thanks for your response. My plan would still be to provide a ~42 inch riser... however, I would not add a p-trap above ground, I would just use the existing shower drain trap (underground - 2”).

I am just trying to avoid breaking up all the concrete... to clarify... is it ok if I use the existing shower trap for the washing machine?

It still wouldnt meet code but Im sure that would work. If and when you sell your house a home inspector is going to "make" you fix it.

YES, you can use the trap to drain your washing machine
BUT...what you must do to make it legal. is remove the shower drain body
and install a stand pipe on that pipe.
YOU CAN NOT, simply poke a pipe in the shower drain and call it good

here is the Michigan code
