I'm stumped. I have a 40 year old roughed in copper line sticking out of the sheetrock behind the fridge of my rental property. The new tenants want it connected to their fridge. I dont want to put a box in and would just like to put a stop valve in....not those needle or saddle valves. Problem is..I cannot find the combination of parts to do this without soldering...sharkbite or compression at big box stores. It seems the 1/4" shark bites are larger diameter and made for PEX...brass fittings/valves seem to be made for PEX too. I know I'm doing something wrong here...can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Reason I say to switch, pex has more leaniancy behind your fridge, copper is more rigid and doesn't have a lot of give to it.

I just went through the same issue over the weekend, using a 1/2 × 1/2 × 1/4 compression fitting similar to the one shown above by Rickyman. My problem was that the end of the 1/4 copper line was wavy and luckily I had enough slack to keep trimming it back until the compression nut and ferrule would slide over the tubing.

I do agree that a flexible line is the better way to go, but the compression fitting should "fit".

The connection to the copper pipe with the stop valve is where I am having trouble. How do I connect the copper roughed in line to the stop valve? Copper is 1/4" and the stop valve is 1/2. I haven't found a coupler or fitting which will work....I'm sure I'm missing something...it cannot be this difficult.
