Hey,
I have a 40 Gallon John Woods (Pro Series/Energy Star) with the Blue Top Hot water tank (gas)
(it's about 7-8 y/o tank) 2nd tank of John woods in this house that i'm living.
Just had the thermocouple replaced a month ago.
All of the sudden today the pilot won't stay lids.
I try to re-light the pilot, it lid, and it stay on for couple of minutes or hours.
Q: Do you guys know what's wrong with it?
Better off buying a new tank right?
Q: Heard Energy Guide is better than Energy Star is that correct?
Q: Planning to go with AO Smith or Bradford White for Hot water what's your guys take?
Q: Has anyone experience of buying Hot water tank from Costco? (Brand: Rheem?)

Just showing this picture, just in case that something I can fix lol

Anything strange? o_O

Thanks in advance!

At that age of a heater it makes more sense to replace it instead of putting more money in it in my opinion. I personally like Bradford and White the best. I would not buy a heater from Costco, Home Depot, Lowe’s, ect. as they have cheaper parts in them than at a supply house even though they have the same name. If you buy their 10-12 year warranty heater for more than twice as much you will get the quality of the 6 year from a supply house. Good luck!

temperature setting? yeah it on default (on where it recommended)

no man, the thermo coupling

look at it, see if it is in the flame or off a couple mm

you said a new thermo coupling was installed, then the heater started cutting out

check and adjust the position of the thermo coupling in the blue pilot light

yeah, it's in the flames

does the water heater work with the cover off of the burner assembly?
and not work when you put the cover back on?

thatt is the sheet metal cover
*the technician recommended me to leave it off.
and yeah it works (but for a month)
haven't try putting it on

. Make sure fresh air can get to the water heater. Get out the vacuum and cleanup all those cobwebs and flammable dust balls. The location of the water heater should have a fresh air supply, either with a louvered door or a vent line that goes outside. Make sure these are open.

anymore tips
if those things doesn't work?

DON'T bypass safety features on a water heater, particularly not a gas water heater. The guy in that video, and everyone who follows his advice, is leaving himself open to a big kaboom.

I was saying to by pass it to see if it is defective. With the assumption that if it were, it would be replaced and problem solved.
