I'm about to measure and cut a 4" CI NH closet elbow. 12" Center off the finished wall.

The closet elbow openings both have different markings. Round recessed rings on one end and a proud ring on the other end. Do those markings indicate which side will connect to the flange?

I realize both of these ends will be cut off but wanted to be sure before I cut this rather pricey fitting.

Thanks.

cut that dude to what ever you want

just remember to use a grinder, to knock down any writing or raised markings where your band will sit

this is a important heads up...

the ribbed end goes into a hub gasket, but if you cut it, it will still go
you will need to ''ping'' the cut end, so it will not cut the rubber

ping= bevel the pipe using a hammer to debur/ dull the edge of the fitting that will come in contact with gasket.

...cheaters tip........ tear a strip of duct tape in half long ways
so that it is 1'' wide. wrap around pipe and fold over the edge. covering the pinged end
lubercate liberally, push into hub

What does cut after test mean? It’s written on top of the rubber part of the oatey flange.

By the way I do plan on supporting the closet elbow with a piece of plywood strapped to the underside of the joists.
