Hi...I'm trying to remove this piece (not sure if it's technically an esuctcheon)...the piece between the arrows is threaded, so I can screw it counter-clockwise, but then it gets stuck as if I've turned it as far as it can go. Any recommendations for how to get it off? I'm trying to get the cartridge out to see if I can just replace an old washer. Thanks for any help you can give...

There should be a screw at the top or bottom near the base that keeps it attached. Just about every handle I've worked with has it at the top, sometimes it is covered with a cap.

That "piece" is attached to the stem. When you back it out you are hitting the bonnet nut. My guess is there was a handle over that "piece"?
You need a handle puller and then remove the escutcheon, then a set of stem wrenches, seats,washers,packings.....

Replace it, you'll be much happier.

Thanks everyone, for the replies...will be getting back in there and will try your advice.
