Watched an interesting video on on Matt Risinger channel on YouTube, where they pressure tested PEX to failure.

Sharkbite pushons, popped off at about 250-psi.

Uponor expansion fittings, stayed together until the PEX-A burst at about 750-psi.

Sharkbite, crimp fittings held until the PEX-B burst at around 1000-psi.

I think I watched the same one.

While I think that the Sharkbyte "portion" is informative when those fittings are installed on PEX, it is possible that it might be a different story on CPVC or copper, as those are stiffer materials, and the gripping teeth of the Sharkbyte fitting might hold better on a harder piping material. And this is coming from someone who feels that Sharkbyte fittings are a temporary fix to be used as a last resort only.

I offered to set them up with some Viega FostaPEX tubing with Viega PEXPress bronze fittings if they choose to repeat the test.

I’ve seen shark bite pushons pop off with only 25 psi in the system

do you have a hydro static testing machine?
would be cool to pump up some cpvc and shark bite to see what happens

I am probably old fashion , but when we re-did our water main , from the meter ( in the ally ) to under the house , I used brass PEX crimp fittings . That used the copper crimp rings .

No scientific justification . Just feel more secure .

I am still leary of that crap.
back in the late 70's--early 80's I was plumbing when poly butalene was the
coolest thing since french toast
.I plumbed many apartments with that crap.
the crimp fittings failed over time, cause millions and millions of dollars in damages

give me copper and i will guarantee it for 30 years

I'm sure you guys are kidding and know that you don't want to burst test any plastic piping with a gas(compressible media).

I have nothing against copper , except the time and cost .

I would not pressure test with air ( a gass ) . Too dangerous . That is why water is used .

When Mom & Dad passed , we inherited their house . It was built in the 1950's . Hot & cold plumbed in copper . It started failing 3 - 4 years ago . Is that long enough for you ?

Of course , could be a matter of soil chemistry ?

I have seen copper that old still in use without problems. I have also seen it start to fail in less than 5 years.

Almost of the leak calls I go to are on copper.

Is it due to poor install ?

I have to confess , I am not the best at soldering . Especially , under the house , with very little room for an old , stove up , fat man to maneuver . :-(

God bless
