Hi
I want to install gas fired recess mounted mini space heater in kids room;
can supply that through flexible 1/2" gas pipes
tapped from the existing rigid gas line located in crawling space

?????

Thank you

Look up how many BTU it needs and how far that 1/2, or 3/4 line etc, is from your main meter

not to be rude but unless your a lic. insured plumber/gasfitter I cant give you any advice except to call a qualified installer gas is way to dangerous to be working with especially when you have KIDS in you explanation....again sorry for being forward but that's my opinion.....

Is it direct vent? Most gas type heaters are not approved for bedrooms. Carbon monoxide poisoning. I personally couldn’t sleep at night worrying about it. Make sure you have CO2 detectors in there.

Yep, if it’s not direct vent it’s a no go in bedrooms. Besides the carbon monoxide issue, gas needs oxygen to burn and will suck all the oxygen out of the bedroom.

im gonna put a question out there....do you guys think we should be giving advice about natural gas or propane I done feel comfortable doing it....thanks just was on my mind
and its only my opinion

Its sketchy. Should probably have a disclaimer. Or a mandatory link to a carbon monoxide poisoning website.

I think in the manuals of these heaters it says not to put in a bedroom. Just like non vented gas logs it tells you to crack
a window open for fresh air or it won't work properly.

I used to refuse to talk about it
BUT, home owners can buy flex gas line at any hardware store now.
So even though I do not think it is a good idea for a home owner to run a gas line
They are going to do it any way,
I might as well try and nudge them in the direction of installing it correctly

Homeowners don’t think rules or guidelines are for “them”, others yes but you all have heard, “that will never happen to me.” People get mad when you tell them you won’t do something because you think it’s dangerous.

in mass we just ...in October had a trained tech somehow put high pressure gas int homes in 3 different towns ...8000 homes were effected people were out of their homes until last week that mistake killed 2 people all gass appliances have to be replaces there were multiple fires if a professional can make that mistake what can an un trained homeowner do...….

If I was yaw I would tell them to kick rocks. We are here for advice yes but when it comes to gas and someone doing it them selves I would stay away. And to the person who posted this u better be aware of all things associated with gas it is not just hooking up a line. I have license in gas and I still would not tell u what to do with out looking at it

To all concerned,

This thread has sparked quite a bit of controversy. Unless you are a professional, i do not feel comfortable telling the OP how to "wing it" when dealing with such a dangerous topic.

Please understand that everything typed in this thread, dangerous, correct, or incorrect will be posted for anyone to read. How would any of us feel if someone read an incorrect post, placed a vented heater into a child's room, and they died as a result?

For this reason, I am going to close this thread from any additional comments, and who knows, we may save a life!

I hope you understand, and if not, please feel free to contact me via a private conversation.
