We can't get the tub water to fully turn off. It is only hot water so I assume from the hot water side. We have a unique/old setup here. If I turn the hot water valve as tight as possible I could get it to slow the flow a little bit, but it does very little.

I have attached some photos of the system, and some close ups on the hot water side.

Any opinion on what we might need to do or how to fix it?

beautiful old plumbing. ive worked on those before but you really need to have a delicate touch. you can try to rebuild stems but theres a chance its corroded and wont work after you take apart. just depends on your experience level. if you do try it buy a brasss screw kit and a faucet washer kit from a plumbing supply shop. it will have any size you need to replace. if brass screw is corroded you will have to use small pliers to spin out or drill out. not easy at all

Thanks Mike,

If you enjoy that, you will probably enjoy a lot of the other plumbing we have in the building. Nearly 100 year old building, not sure of the plumbing age.

I have nearly no experience in plumbing, but was hoping I could figure out a way to do it myself. We have multiple tubs with the same setup so was hoping I could learn now and be prepared for others in the future.

Is it possible to make this a DIY project that I can learn from the ground up, or am I over my head?

i would try it on the least used tub first in case you have any issues. its all threaded connections so worst case you could replace with modern chrome threaded fittings and valves. look on home depot or lowes or plumbers supply house

Hire a plumber who is willing to rebuild one/some, learn and do, or watch Youtube
