the flushmaster style universal mounts don’t fit as they run against the front of the toilet when installed. The part that allows the lever to rotate into position rubs and catches on the front.

Any choices other than bending a simple straight arm handle assembly?
 
depends on the toilet. Sometimes that will work, SOMETIMES.
post a picture of the toilet, brand. Model # is sometimes stamped inside the tank or under the lid
 
what brand is it?????there are numbers cast or stamped into the back of the toilet tank thoses will give you exact replacement parts....try a PLUMBING SUPPLY HOUSE they will know what the numbers mean.....also take a pic of the toilet.....a brand name would be most helpful...
