Where is my filter?

i need help!!! Please...
I purchased a home recently and tank pumped at the inspection and was told the filter needed replacing and it was gonna cost $2100. Upon our own inspection after educating ourselves on filter cleaning and care, we removed the lid and all we see is concrete with a small hole no pipes where the filter should be. We also looked up this filter and can’t find it they did say it was rare but it’s like it doesn’t exist in the tank or online. The home is less than 20 years old the tank has only been pumped twice an by the same company I believe... I’m still waiting on confirmation on that.

Depends on the system installed. The health department may have records.

That’s a new one. Our septics don’t have filters. They do have grease traps with filters but that’s commercial here. Proceed carefully. Call local health department before you pay this guy. Septic rules here differ by county. So if anything have that plumber shoe you filter

around here they make you put a "filter" in new septic installs...supposedly to extend life of system. basically to stop things that shouldnt go into system. easily cleaned but a real nasty chore

Do you live in Pembroke or Duxbury, MA by chance? I just googled it and found, "There are at least two towns in Massachusetts that require effluent filters for new construction and repairs (Pembroke and Duxbury). ..."

So if I understand this correctly, the implication was that you have a filter and it must be replaced. As suggested, I would question...
1) The local health dept on whether it's a requirement.
2) The person that said you needed to replace it.

--------Why not just clean it?
--------Why can't I see it?

Do you have only one access cover? It appears that most of these system, that have a filter, have a separate access to the filter, for removal and cleaning.
I suppose if the filter housing(the exit chamber that holds the filter) was broken, then maybe.
Something smells!
