Hi Jeff, I am talking about the pop up assembly with the metal threaded tail piece. From there I go plastic trap and etc. I have
to much trouble with the plastic pop up's from the box stores. If I have to put one in I feel lucky if I get one that doesn't leak.
I agree 100%. Thanks.

I always dabble a little white joint compound areound rubber underneathe pop up and around slip joint WASHERS. Hand tight if clean base. Maybe a squeeze with short channel locks if bade is little corroded. Never have a problem with plastic. Brass is better but does corrode on the tiny threads and you have tobwrench down on the nuts. My pop up pop ups without the linkage are brass. $17 on Amazon.

Joint compound??? Do you mean pipe dope, or possibly plumbers putty?

We in the field call it pipe dope also. But the next customer on my list is a church of Christ preacher. He prefers me to say pipe thread compound
