Hi. I need to replace the copper pipe as shown in the attached image. The white stuff is J-B Weld which has actually held up very well. I'm pretty handy and do quality work but I've never worked with soldering or desoldering pipes for plumbing before.
The lower portion of the copper pipe is eggshell thin.

I can cut the pipe out and somehow desolder where it goes into each fitting. Any tips on that would be great. The big question is, what to replace it with. I'd like to do this work in place without having to remove the toilet & fittings.

I was thinking of using non-metallic pipe with two Short pieces that match the inner diameter of the fittings, and one outer diameter short piece that connects the two in the center.

It would be nice if the piping was somewhat flexible in case things shift upstairs. I'd rather not ever have to fix this again. Of course nothing is forever. Thanks for any help!

you could cut it back past the last weak point ….thereis a transition coupling that joins pvc to copper....but you would have to see if the pvc fittings are bigger than the copper
you would need a street 90 or a street flange

Thanks for the response.
The 90° fittings are very solid and I wouldn't need to replace them. For the copper pipe, I'd rather remove all of it and just get down to those two 90° fittings which I think are bronze.

then you would just need 2 couplings that transition from copper to pvc….these are called transition couplings or mission couplings....not FERNCO (all rubber)

to repair that correctly, it looks like it is a toilet? correct?

you are pretty much screwed,,,no easy fix
your best option is to cut out and replace the tee in the wall,

use a pro-flex/fernco # 3001- 33 shielded band to transition to pvc

3001-33 for 3''
3001-22 for 2''2222.png

I would cut the copper completely out. Cut it flush against both fittings. Then buy 2 plastic to plastic mission couplings
and then put a piece of pvc or abs pipe in between and then tighten up and your done.

Thanks for the reply. Would the mission fitting be a good seal over the collar on the outside of the brass fittings? They are somewhat irregular, have orange peel casting texture, and there is also a little nipple if you look at the top edge of the collar on the right fitting.

You need a good size torch to do any soldering with that copper. Please don’t burn your house down. Copper 90 $who knows, big enough torch $1500 , pile of ashes that use to your house ? Divorce. Call a plumber. An insured plumber. And yes toilet needs to come up 2 nuts and a supply. To easy to leave out that flange. Listen to these guys. The only mistake I see is diameter of pipe is hard to see in picture but it looks like a toilet drain not supply. So I would guess it’s 3”. The copper scrap price will almost pay for your fittings. I would ask to cut a couple access holes in drywall and let me take pvc all the way to crawl. Since your in drywall already. Then when repipe time comes your upstairs drop is taken care of and you can strap on and go. Good luck god bless.
