Aside from how I pick up the water what is a good brand of pump to look at? I need to start pricing things to see what's best for me.

Also if I go with a well how can I keep driftwood and logs from killing this thing? The whole area floods.

My favorite would be a Berkeley like the B1.5ZPLS in 10HP with a 7 7/8" impeller trim. The little ditch over to the wet well pit is the best way to keep driftwood and stuff from washing everything away. Out in the main channel stuff can disappear on you. :)

I only sorry about it in the spring before I would put the pump in. The water can easily rise 10 feet so anything permanent can take a beating.

I talked to the neighbor over the weekend and he is not going to let me dig a well near his bridge. He is already having issues with erosion and just said flat out no.

My irrigation supply house recommended a foot valve that sits inside a strainer. Us that an odd way of doing it?

Not unusual at all. Just a 6" foot valve will need much more submergence than a 2" foot valve. A solid plate on the top of the strainer box will also help keep water from whirl pooling and sucking in air.

He is also recommending a 10 hp pump with a 2 inch inlet and 1-1/2" outlet to keep the pressure at 45 psi with 75 feet of lift through 4 inch pipe. Does this sound normal to you?

If the pump has a 2" suction, you would want a 3" suction hose and foot valve. Same with the 1.5" outlet, you want to go bigger as soon as possible. What pump model number are you looking at? There are lots of different 10HP pumps.

I'm waiting on him to get back to me and I will let you know
