I have tiny leak (I marked its location with red color on the photo.
What is the best way to seal it?
Should not the ring inside compress and create a seal.
I started to happen after I replaced the faucet with exactly same one.
Could the silver pipe be little off and does not allow for the perfect seal to be created? The pipe was also replaced.

thx

It should reseal but those white poly tapered washers are not my favorite. In fact I don’t use them anymore I use the colored ones that are now available usually orange or blue and a little more pliable and more forgiving and better sealing.

thx , I will get new washer then.
What is the difference between blue and orange?

when you replaced the chrome pipe going into the trap how
much was sticking into the trap... I actually like the poly washers
I don't buy the at the big box stores....everyone has thier preferences
Try a little Teflon paste

PVC is cheap .

Go buy a new P-Trap & all the parts that go with it .

If you still do not get the leak stopped , then coume update the thread . And , yes , use some pipe dope if you think it would help .

The silver pipe is pretty long
I will try new washer and new T.
if that does not work I will be forced to use Teflon paste.

I tried new rubber washer , new t and noting works.
The leakage is between the rubber and the silver pipe.
The rubber washer actually allowed more leakage then the poly washer.
Like for some reason the washer does not want to wrap around the metal pipe.
I have some pfe paste but this one is probably only for thread seals.
Any other ideas?

Edit:How about the putty?

What size washer are you using? Inch and a half or inch and a quarter

Is it all 11/4" ?? Fasten it to the metal pipe first and then to the other part of the trap. If you need to use pipe dope put it around the metal pipe just under the poly gasket and then tighten it up. Keep us informed.

I tried to fasten it at different spots and different orders and it just does not seal where it is in contact with metal pipe. I wonder why the washer does not seal around the pipe?
Is it normal to use pipe dope in this scenario or it should seal?
Is pipe dope same as the TFE paste? (which I have handy)

Maybe you should run to the hardware store and buy a 11/4" black rubber seal. Then put your paste under like I said before. When I was an apprentice many years ago if we didn't put pipe dope on like I told you we got reamed out. The black washers are the ones that come with a good metal p-trap so I know you can get them. Hope this helps.

I always thought that those type of fittings were designed to be leak free and no pipe dope was necessary to be used here. The leak is happening as the washer is not creating the seal around the pipe while it is pressed on.
It is leak free on the outside side of the washer.

I feel like if the pipe dope is under the washer and I start tightening the pipe the washer will still be loose and pipe dope will be stretched while the washer is wrapping around the pipe.

Is not better to put the pipe dope from the top after everything is tighten up?

New T ? You mean , new P - Trap .

Are all the parts 1-1/2" or are they 1-1/4" ? If you have a mix of parts , that may be the problem .

Seems like they make parts to transition from one size to another ? Been a long time since I saw that . I use 1-1/4" for bathroom lavatories & 1-1/2" for kitchen sinks .

Is your p-trap 11/2" or 11/4"...

Like one of the posters said get rid of that trap and use PVC
there is a fitting g called a desanco it's just the fitting that
glues into or on the pipe the nut is the washer hd/lowes
will have all of those parts

are you using a 1 1/2 trap on a 1 1/4 chrome drain?
they make a 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 reducing washer,
and, your trap arm is about an 1'' to short, your trap is not plumb/level under the pipe

Holy crap! Look who the cat dragged in!
