I live in Illinois, and I'm trying to look up the Plumber License of a plumber with whom I am having an issue.

In Illinois, the agency that licenses plumbers is the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). The following is the IDPH database of licensed plumbers:

https://plumblicv5pub.dph.illinois....erification/Plumber_License_Verification.aspx

On the website of the plumber's plumbing company, is the company's Illinois Plumber License number, a number that begins with "055". I entered that number into the "License ID" field on the database website, and nothing came up.

I then typed into the "Business Name" field, the first three letters of the company's name, followed by *. This was supposed to show me all licensed companies whose names begin with the three letters. A list of eight companies showed up, and none of these eight companies is my plumber's plumbing company.

I then typed my plumber's last name into the "Last Name" field. This last name is a very unique Eastern European last name. I got one hit. It was a plumber with the same last name, but with a very different first name.

So, what's going on here? Is my plumber licensed? Is his company licensed? Is the IDPH database malfunctioning?

Thanks for any info.

Bring from Canada, I'm not familiar with this routine, but here you couldn't get ahold of my licence if you wanted to. What would benefit you from getting his information?

After all, I'm not a big believer in licensing. Just because someone has a licence, does not automatically make them a good plumber, or have work ethic, nor does it protect you from being ripped off.

we caught a guy using his grand pas master license as his own, come to find out, he was not even a journeyman .

contact your local plumbing inspector, give him the name and info

he will look it up, you can't look up our personal info. ever hear of hippa ? ours is ''PiPPA''

you want me to be able to access your private info ?

I'm not interested in the plumber's home address. I simply wanted to find out whether his license had incurred any violations.

Here in Illinois, we can go to the website of the agency that licenses doctors (different from the agency that licenses plumbers) and see the violations (if any) a particular doctor's license has incurred. I wanted to do the same for my plumber's license.

Did you pull a permit for the work that is being performed

Do they put his license info on the permit. You may be able to get info on him through the permit department

I just got an email from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). The IDPH is telling me that neither the plumbing company, nor the plumber himself, is licensed in Illinois. The IDPH says that the company and the plumber may be licensed in the City of Chicago, but I live in a suburb, not in Chicago itself.
