I’m about to go check an electric water heater because the owners are getting rusty water.
It needs a new one......

Their pond also needs fishing 🤠

Perks of being a plumber 🤣

Angie, I'm glad your mother is doing well and that she has a nice "apartment".

Richwhoo, everytime I hear "transformer" I think of the cartoon & Optimus Prime. Also, when I see your name I think of Rick Flair. LOL. I have a crappy thermostat I have trouble reading. Don't know if my system could work with a Nest style one.

Is replacement the only option for rusty water or can a new annodized rod work?

I popped in to my favorite Chinese place before going to Samsclub. I really like the owner. He's got a good sense of humor & is always nice. Cooked potatoes for mom and am waiting for her to ask for something else. Got to watch the idiot cardinals crashing into mom's window this morning. They desperately want in. They stopped briefly when the cat was watching them.

You can go to their website and use their comparison tool for the nest thermostat to see if it will work. Go to https://store.google.com/us/product/nest_thermostat?hl=en-US#origin-1637540015159 and scroll down to "Check Compatibility"

I tore apart my grandfather clock for the 3rd time. Lubed it again, but this time a pulled apart the face plate. So far, 40 minutes later, is tic to tocking perfectly. Heck, I may get into the business now that I know what makes them tic!
My only local bid to come out to repair it was $1000 minimum price.

Wow! That's steep

Thanks! I'm fairly certain mine is not compatible as its old wires for an old unit. I did have my unit replaced sometime in 2009 or 2010 because the old AC unit was from a company that went out of business in 1973. It was older than the guy who came to work on it. He called it a "dinosaur". His father's uncle used to live here and his father told me that he thought the unit may have been put in during the 1940s. But, I will still check the compatibility chart.

Havasu, glad you were able to fix the clock. I love grandfather clocks but don't really have the space for one.

Today I went out and took some inventory of the plumbing parts I have but already forgot because I forgot to take something to take notes with. My friend is supposed to come out tomorrow to run hot water lines. There are only 2 plumbers in the area. One I wouldn't trust after I saw the "work" he did on my friend's grandfather's house. Like, who the hell busts out bricks, runs a vent through it, doesn't seal up around it, runs it up a few inches (below the fill level of the washing machine the vent is for) and then slaps an AAV on it? The sewer lines were all different angles and not sloped properly... Also, there's no way that guy is fitting under the house if I can't fit. Other plumber would have to get his brother-in-law to climb under but last time I saw the BIL he wasn't looking so healthy. But, every time I call I get either his wife or an answering machine. Left messages but no callbacks.

Anyway, I've got about twenty-five 1/2" cinch rings, fourteen 3/4" cinch rings, a few plastic manifolds with one 3/4" inlet and four 1/2" outlets. Some with only three 1/2" outlets. I think I have some 1/2" tees... I need to split off for a lav, washing machine, & tub in one area. I need to split off to two showers and two lavs on the other side of the house. But I need to tap into the same line that comes from the water heater, loops under the washing machine (but is not hooked up) and then goes to the kitchen sink. It's a 3/4" line but I need to split off to 1/2" because those are the fittings I could find. Need to make sure I can find the full kit for the laundry hookup bc right now getting hot water for laundry is higher priority. Would be nice to take a hot shower too. Getting too cold for the cold showers (and washing hair in the sink). Gonna have to call my friend bc he hasn't responded yet. He was supposed to touch base with me "early" today.

Called my friend and he finally woke up a little before noon, but he didn't have to be at work until 5. Had him come out and doublecheck parts. Needed a couple more fittings that weren't at the local hardware store. Made a plan for the supply lines, I drew out the layout and discussed the best fittings to use for each spot (since we have some plastic manifold pieces). He said he wants to do the cold water tomorrow as well. I want to make sure all the hot is done first, but maybe both can be done about the same time. Had to go up to Lowes to get more stuff (and grabbed ceiling tiles for his nursery).

I did inventory check on all of the tools. I will need to do some cleanup later in the night and early tomorrow morning. It's supposed to be cold but I hope it won't be too cold. Already cooling off now so the kitties are piled on me-- got 5 cats and 2 dogs curled up with me. Was 4 cats until a few seconds ago but player 5 has entered the game. My oldest cat is in with my brother-- since he's the only cat who doesn't knock stuff down & cause problems. He's the only one allowed in Mom's room as well. He's been sleeping on her the past couple of nights.

I'll have to remember to turn off the power to the AC since that one line under the house is not in conduit and zaps people.

I told Mom that tomorrow is going to suck & that I will have to suit up to crawl under the house. Apparently she thought I was going to be helping my friend with plumbing so she got mad & asked in an angry voice "When are you going to fix the water at OUR house?" so I told her that is what we are doing tomorrow. She thought I was buying parts and doing prep for my friend all this time.

My brother finally took out the trash in the bathroom for the first time in months. He also took out the kitchen trash without me asking. So I went into his room and picked up some of his laundry and filled up a tall basket for him (his back has been hurting). I figure rewarding good behavior helps. We've been having to do laundry in the sink and take loads over to friend's house since February. I admit some of it is has piled up because it's not convenient. Washing machine won't run (even on cold) if it senses there is no hot water.

So, tomorrow plan is to make sure the path to the laundry room is clear enough for my friend to walk, get my friend some breakfast (he works better once he's had food), go over the plan, turn power off to well/water/AC, suit up, and crawl under.

Any suggestions for good ways to drag or grab PEX in small spaces (have to military crawl through under the house)? Maybe some rope or something? Tether to old pipes that are being removed and pull old pipes until pex is where we want it?

I was verbally attacked by a Canadian this morning and now I’m going to replace a bathtub drain that the owner broke a few drain cables off into.

it’s really cold outside too......46 degrees. I’ll have to let it warm up a little more. I don’t go outside unless it’s in the 50’s or above.

Yeah, unfortunately we had to let him go. I don't appreciate people telling our professional helpers to [F] off. I visited that Canadian country before, and thought everyone was so nice. Not so much anymore, I rekon.

I was just joking around but sometimes people take it the wrong way. I shouldn’t have kept it going but I struggle with adulting.

No telling what I’ll find in this drain. It’s a rental. I’ll try to take some pics. I’m about to head that way.

I called the lady and her baby is sick. So we put the job off.

Maybe she heard of my bad attitude 🤣

Sounds like a $1200 day for you?

This one is leaking so it’ll have to be replaced tomorrow morning. It’s a 50 gas but they want a 40 gas.

I’m on the way to pick up the new heater now. Installed it’ll run them around $1200. That’s including everything.

Oh, don't be lazy. Do it today. Make a customer happy for Turkey day!

I would if it wasn’t on a stand 18” off the floor in a laundry room where I have to remove the washer to get to it.

Turkey day isn’t till Thursday

Got a call and don’t know who referred me.
Leaking faucet was the problem on the phone.

I was surprised they sent me $70
Better than watching Netflix 😀

Right on! I wouldn’t have charged for the trip but it was 23 miles away and took 1hr 5min to get there with traffic! 35 minutes back. I enjoy the chats and laughs more than the extra money. Extra experience too 😋👍

Yesterday was bargain day! Won a big radial drill press with electronic variable speed on a 2.2hp motor. On a stand with wheels! For $167 in an online auction! And for $10? 4 boxes of copper sweat fittings totaling around 100 pounds! Dusty and tarnished, but a couple of hours in my cement mixer with a shovelful of silica sand and kerosene and they will shine like a dime in a goat’s ass!
Today is my younger son’s birthday, he came for that and the turkey tomorrow. He doesn’t yet know he gets to help unload the drill press after breakfast!
