I'm a DIY-er, attempting to replace old cartridge in Moen M-pact, I used the proper tool, but the plastic part won't budge and now is stripped, I'm not sure what my options are now other than call a plumber?

First question: I assumed this is standard counter clockwise rotation to open. Please advise if this is correct.

Photo attached shows stripped part. (In this photo the part with the screw is still in place -- but I did remove that when attempting to do this job.)

I've attached PDF for this, the part has no name here but it's the part under 97479 that must be unscrewed.

Thanks!

Remove the screw and the red handle adapter and take another pic.

Moen makes tool to remove the internal retainer nut.

That’s the correct tool, it should turn counterclockwise.

If that fails Use a red hot sharp screwdriver to make new slots or to melt the nut in half. Just don’t damage the brass threads.
