I will try to be as NON confusing as i can in my explanation!

my issue is I’m trying to connect a water supply line to a dishwasher. Sounds easy right? Well, not on this setup my friend has. Let me explain.

picture if you can, two flexible supply hoses coming out of the ground, coming up to the faucet (which isa mixer tap). Then, picture, coming off the cold hose, a piece of 3/8 pvc pipe, several inches long with a valve on it. No thread at the end, just a simple piece of pipe. This is what apparently was used at one time to supply the old dishwasher. (How, I’ll never know). Anyway, the deal is: i have a metal compression fitting that I’ve tried gluing onto the end of that pipe, then connecting thesupply line hose to that, then to the dishwasher. Problem is , as you can imagine, metal does NOT glue to pvc very well. It just kept coming off under water pressure or just leaking. I thought of the idea of gluing a pvc fitting to the end of the pipe, but the problem is there’s no 3/8 fittings to be found (that match what i need). I’ve looked all over.

do you guys have any OTHER ideas on how i can get this done???

This the only pic i have currently until i get out there to take more. It does the end of the pipe that i tried to glue the fitting onto

Thats appears to be polybutylene. You can’t glue that.

You’ll need to replace that section from its source.

You possibly could attach to that tubing but I’m not sure what size it is. It would be best to replace it.

My vacation home had PB pipe (until I replaced it with PEX) and the Sharkbites worked great for these situations.

Can someone then explain to me what a sharkbite fitting is? And i already bought the pvc glue i guess I’ll have to take it back. Already have a brass compression fitting also.

You just need to find the OD of the gray pipe, and the threadded fitting that you need. You simply push it on, tighten the threaded portion, and you're done.

Omg! That looks just like the one i got at the beginning of all this! But it was listed under compression fittings so I’m guessing it’s not a sharkbite. That sounds SO easy to apply!!

Based on the writing on the side it is 1/2” CTS. You still want to use a polybutylene sharkbite, it has a grey plastic ring instead of the tan or black plastic ring.

I already bought one and i think it’s got the tan ring. I REALLY don’t want to have to take it back; can i still use it with decent results and no leaks?

It must be a 3/8th i tried using a 1/2 fitting and it was too big.

The tubing you have must be 1/2” outside diameter 3/8” inside diameter.

It should be on the hot
Actually maybe it is. lol. I haven’t felt the water to make sure. I will make sure before i do anything else because if it’s on the cold then i got a LOT of work ahead of me. :/
