Why would a homeowner need to install that?

It looks like anti-tampering style for commercial property.

There is no valve handle, does that plastic hose adapter turn the water on?

What about when it snaps off from yanking on the hose, now you are screwed, how do you shut it off?

All I see is more trouble and hassle compared to installing a typical frost proof sillcock.

The design is a check valve. You get an adapter that twist locks. If you break it you twist it back out and the valve closes. It's a better design. Theoretically that is. Have you ever looked into a silcock? Ever see the plug twist on its way down to the seat? How is that supposed to last? It was always a poor design.

You will never convince me.

All I see is a POS waiting to break, with the plastic adapter snapped off, but the water still gushing out, client calling for help, me not able to rush over there.
So they have to turn off all house water.
Unless the sillcock has a secondary shutoff inside the basement or crawlspace etc.

And the cover flap looks like it would be busted off after a few weeks.

If a customer presented that to me to install, I would make these same points, and refuse to install this garbage.

The old valve design is being replaced with ball valves every day. For good reason. This is just a different version of replacing valves that never worked well over time to begin with.

It's a cam lock. You literally use your fingers and it twists out. The nipple has rubber washers.

Apparently they make a removable faucet for your special customers who don't know how to twist, lol.

Or the burst ones we see once a month on here, mainly becuse they wear themselves out.

Maybe ten years from now we'll see these things on here burst who knows. But trying something new is worth it when the old is an obvious design flaw.

$80 for a frostproof silcock is very pricey - at least in *my* book.
And you still need to remove the hose in the Fall, or it will freeze up.
People who love to show off their expensive new toys are frequently also "First Adopters". Let's hear it for guinea pigs.
