I replaced the inside of my toilet a few years ago. Since it is in the guest bathroom it doesn’t get used very often. Now it is so hard to flush I have to lift the lid to flush it and pull the handle up that way. Do I need to replace it again or is their secret to getting it to flush easier? Thanks for your help.

You should be able to narrow down where the resistance is.
If you can lift the handle from within the tank, you should be able to tell if it's the handle assembly that goes thru the tank front or the assembly that's being lifted.
My guess would be the handle assembly.
Why not take it apart and free it up by cleaning and replacing.

The difficult flush is usually the flush valve seal/gasket. It can warp and cause a lotta suction.

Lift the flush valve up (the middle one), and check the condition of that rubber ring (it's usually red, or yellow). The flatter, the better. If that's all that has to be replaced, it's way cheaper than replacing all the insides.

Otherwise, the handle could be too tight or crusted up, like Diehard mentioned.

Thank you for your responses. I will try replacing the gasket as it appears it isn’t flat and causing more suction making it hard to flush.

If I remember correctly, that's a Mansfield.
You may want to see if there are deposits/corrosion underneath that rubber seal.
If so, cleaning it up with steel wool (Brillo) is quick and easy.

edit: Hah.. says Mansfield on rear of tank.
edit2: You might want to change the flush handle while you're there, plastic arm eventually breaks

Thank you, I will try that first!

Go ahead, but 99% sure you're going to need the new rubber seal, they harden and stop sealing well.
HD, Ace, etc. have them -- LINK
