DSCN1181.JPG Hello! Probably an odd question, but I'm coming into the middle of a project someone else started that I have to finish....We bought a new place recently and I'm finishing a boiler installation that the previous owner (or somebody, long story) started. Its a wood fired boiler, located in the garage and piped into the house. They had the pipe already laid and buried in the ground, I need to attach it to copper on both ends and a few other things. BUT... I thought it was PEX pipe (admittedly I'm not very familiar with PEX, still old-school with copper myself) It appears not to be. There are no markings on it whatsoever, which is perplexing to say the least. Measures 1" ID, and a 1" pex clamp-collar type fitting swims inside it. A brass barbed fitting like you'd use for Poly fits ok in one line, but loose enough to cause trouble in the other. A pair of standard screw-type hose clamps wont even begin to compress it. Any ideas what this pipe is and what type of fittings I need to connect to copper? I should add that 1 1/4" barbed fitting is way too big...

Don't know for sure.
Are you sure the markings are not embossed and hard to see?

A side note for the OP(ED W.).
The size that's typically used to describe a pipe size is actually what is referred to as their "nominal" size.
For example nothing on a 1" pipe actually measures 1".

Dimensions of PEX SDR 9 (CTS) tube according ASTM F876 Standard Specification for Crosslinked Polyethylene (PEX) Tubing:

Nominal pipe size: 1 1/4"
Outside diameter: 1.375"
Inside diameter: 1.069"

EDIT: BTW...The O.D. of PEX was made to match that of copper, allowing you to use a variety of transitions fittings.

When the tubing or pipe has the option to change the wall thickness(schedule or type), the changes are made to the I.D. and not the O.D.

Hey! Thank you all! I checked both ends of both pipes over again, there may have been some writing on one spot, but its so worn away that it just looks like a really poor and faded barcode now. I'm assuming maybe from being pulled through the shielding pipes in the ground. I'm going to check the links that J Handy posted above..... This would be a WHOLE lot easier if could walk into a store and buy fittings and see what fits instead of special ordering things I'm guessing about. But anything over 3/4" most places seem scared to death of carrying, and FORGET 1 1/4"!

Try: https://www.supplyhouse.com/PEX-Crimp-Fittings-543000 and related pages there. I assumed crimp fittings (Type B PEX), but this site has something for everyone, and their customer support has been good for me.
You aren't kidding, they do have a lot of good stuff! I also had to deal with customer support (adding an item onto an order) and they were absolutely great. Search engine is a little wonky though, lol!
