Water logged 40 gal pressure tank question

I recently replaced a bad pressure tank. The tank in question is water logged (water is on top of the bladder, not under it). The tank is full of water and as such weighs a ton. It is completely disconnected and will not drain. The air valve is also damaged and is stuck in the closed position. I cannot remove it.

What is the risk in drilling out the air valve to drain the water out of the tank? My system run a 40/60 pressure setup.

Any other methods to drain this tank so i can get it out of my basement?

You can get a little valve wrench tool at auto parts or bicycle shops, that will unscrew the core of the air valve.

It might come shooting out at you, along with a stream of water.

Just drill a hole in the tank, but drill a hole in a big scrap of plywood first, and then drill the tank with that sitting on the bit, as a shield.

So you don’t wreck your drill if pressurized water comes shooting out as you make the hole.

I tried to use a valve removal tool but the valve was damaged and only part of the valve came out but the valve seat is still stuck inside. Just wanted to make sure there were no "hidden" issues with drilling a hole in the tank. Good tip on the board to protect the drill!
