I just replaced a pedestal sink with a vanity and sink. The new sink drain is slightly further from the wall than the pedestal drain was. I'm not entirely sure how to go about attaching the P-trap without opening the wall and redoing the existing pipe work, but even then I wouldn't know what I'm doing. I assume I could cut the existing schedule 40 and insert a tee, then connect a trap adapter. I've attached a photo of the existing pipe. Please advise if I'm on the right track or if there is an easier way to do this that does not involve tearing into the wall.
