Hey all, ive replaced a furnace before with gas lines, new fittings, couplers etc.

I am now working a kitchen remodel and the gas line comes out 30" above the floor, I need it to come out 6" from the floor.

The vertical gas line coming up is 21', is there any way to just cut the 2' off of the existing line (obviously with the gas shut off and the line purged with air) and clamp a fitting on to continue the path to the face of the wall, or do I need to replace the entire 21' length with a piece cut and rethreaded at a local shop to the size I need?

Not an expert, but I believe you have two choices.

1 - cut the existing pipe using a pipe cutter, and then re-thread the cut end. However, the die and tool you need would probably be too expensive, if you are not a plumber.

2 - remove the 21 foot length, add a nipple to the female fitting, and then run gas flex line up to the range. You can buy the flex line and fittings you would need at the orange big box. A few years ago, you had to get "certified" in order to purchase that flex line, but the certification was simply reading and understanding the pamphlet that was on display rigHTC where they sold the flex line, and then filling out the card at the back of the pamphlet. I am not sure if that is still required or not.

No certification needed , here . I would make sure the stainless steel flex is 100% exposed ( outside of the wall ) .

You have a one piece gas line that's 21 feet?
What am I missing here?

They used to sell black iron pipe in 21' joints . I can not say what is available , but I would only use threaded pipe + pipe dope + threaded fittings .

Thanks...When I looked for it on the web, I couldn't find it but I just looked again and found it on a couple of sites.

And to think as a kid I used to do all the cutting and threading of steel pipe for my father. I should have became a plumber like my brother and retired early in life.:D
