New Softener not Regenerating

Hi again guys and gals.

We just purchased and installed a brand new GE water softener. Model GXSH40V. Our hardness is 35 or so. I set it up per directions and ran a manual recharge, and it worked like a champ. It has auto metering, and the display is showing 348 days until next recharge, while the salt level is just at 4, and the display shows we are only using 30 gals of water a day....
Obviously, somethings off.....
We bought it at Home Depot, but installed myself, so I can’t just call Hone Depot to gripe.

Help?

I tried it closed, halfway open, and wide open. No change in the amount used per day, or days until recharge... how can we possibly only be using 30 gal a day?

There is something in the manual about changing something in the programming, as it is used in two different models. I was hesitant to mess with it, but I’ll try that before I call for service.... thanks!

In these cases I would suggest you leave it be and call GE support, they will know how to fix your problem. I had a softener once that I used a lot and a valve broke, it was a reverse osmosis softener and it worked really well actually, I had it for at least five years, but one day the I notice the water tasted different so I decided to check out if something had happened to my softener. Turns out that one of the valves was broken and I had to repair it by changing the tubbing but little did I know that I did not want to use PBC tubbing for a softener so a couple of days later I noticed a water leakage in my bathroom and that's when I went uh oh.

The room where I had installed the softener was flooded and the system I used was totally broken, so that's why I would suggest that you do not change anything from it, if you do, you risk either messing up your softener for good or flooding your entire room like I did, and trust me, softener repairs are expensive and sometimes they can not even fix them, either that or the failure stays and it will reflect later in the future. Just call GE and see what they can do about it. If they can't fix it and you want to get a new one ask around for a better brand, I have found sites like this one here that review water softeners, filters etc, if you want to look for one I suggest you start there or alternatively you can ask around or just search in other websites for the best brand out there.

Yep, it can't possibly be DAYS. As the regeneration can only be determined by how many GALLONS are processed.
