Was watching a YouTube video of a couple building a house, I think in Idaho .

They stated their code required ABS for drain and they could use PVC ( white ) for vent , I think .

Around here , it is either cast iron or PVC . Never see ABS .

What would the reason be for requiring ABS ?

Thanks , :)

After reviewing the differences, the only reason I could find AGAINST the ABS was the fact that it is more flammable.
In the Mid West the ABS black stuff was outlawed years ago because of fire safety issues. In a fire they found that the PVC would only smoulder and never really light up, but the Black ABS would light up like a log and burn for a long time adding to the fire.

As far as REQUIRING ABS, the only reason I could find was that it has a higher impact strength than PVC, especially at lower temperatures.

Check your local codes, as well as availability and cost of each.
