Not to belabor the point, but if you look back at the link you provided in post #30 above, I believe you and Mikey had some differences in interpretation. (Post 12 through 15):D

I'm not disagreeing with what you just posted in the 4 lines of text above. Just the part about, There is no alternative interpretation.

YEAH, Mikey did have a problem with the interpretation,
I do not think Mikey knows what an airgap is
either for
or is
Don't know if it's code or not, but it doesn't make much sense, unless there's provision for making sure the "hot water" is in fact hot at the time of use.

I had a job trailer that had a 20 gallon low boy a taco pump and a vav box set up for heat
worked pretty good,

No they are supposed to be plumbed to cold supply.....no idea why they are sometimes installed wrong....maybe the installer thinks that the hot water will evaporate better ;-)

I have seen a lot of forum threads where the OP posts up a problem, then members throw out suggestions to find the solution, and the OP is never heard from again......sign of the times?

Wow good to know ^^^, mine and the several others I have installed said to only use cold water. Then again I have only installed a half dozen mostly of the same brand so its not like I have a lot of experience. I have an April Aire pleated filter but another brand of humidifier.

Yeah, that aggravates me. I want to hear the outcomes. good , bad, or otherwise.:D

I had a gas heater die once on Christmas weekend at my parents house. Took the burners off the stove from my apartment and hung them in the main duct and wired them up to the AC disconnect.....Ah to be 18 and carefree again

Nah, I know very well what an air gap is, the problem is parsing 608.5(3) to determine where that air gap has to be. I'm in the "visible at the WH" crowd, but there are those misguided souls who allow the air gap to be outside the building.

I apologize for such a late response. Here is the funny thing. After this event my water bill dropped back down to the normal amount (39.00) and has been that way ever since. And the meter is still moving back and forth. So unless there is something happening in my water heater (new in 2016) I am thinking they read the meter incorrectly. I can see each and every pipe that goes into the walls from the crawlspace and never did find any water. Strange right?

$39.00 ???? I pay $400 every 3 months, 2 family house. I’m thinking of giving up water.

I'm not too sure you 2 guys are on the same page.
Sounds like @Mikey is saying that an "Air Gap" can't be located outside. Which may have been an issue in a much earlier discussion.

Of course, when outside, which is obviously one of the many acceptable options, the air gap is the distance between the ground and the end of the pipe.(2" min., 6" max.)

504.6(2) must be taken as when it is discharged in the same room it must have an air gap. Whether it be from the floor, the pan, or a waste receptor. It is not, or cannot be saying it must be located in the same room. Only that IF in the same room, it must discharge through an Air Gap.

It's definitely true that line 2 and line 5 of the code is somewhat ambiguous.

DieHard, I do not see it as ambiguous. at all

the code states how a indirect drain is to be installed
and where it is to terminate
a T&P IS an indirect drain

clearly the code is saying the pop off runs to a floor drain and terminates with an airgap
OR
runs outsside

Typically, the water heater pan and pop off are run outside from a unit in the attic
but, can also be done on a unit that is on a outside wall
