Hello ALL,

So I replaced the flush valve and fill valve on my toilet and went to flush and the water in the bowl does not FLUSH and just keeps filling.. I have to pull the toilet handle up to stop from filling the bowl.. what did I do wrong!?!?! this was an easy replacement and Im certain I did everything correctly. Please help! thank you in advance...

Did you try to plunge the toilet?

The flush valve and fill valve have nothing to do with the ability 9f the bowl to empty, unless you dropped a part into the bowl and clogged it.

Take a wire coat hanger to the holes up under rim.

Sound like the flush valve was installed incorrectly. Take a picture of what's going on and we can help you further.

What am I missing??? What do any of these replies have to do with the bowl filling up, rather than emptying?
Yeah, that's the toughest part of these questions sometimes. You have to read them extremely carefully and if there is any doubt, have them clarify.
I read it the way you did. The water is flowing from the tank to the bowl but not leaving the bowl.
LMAO

That's a tough one to read. Presuming the tank filled before he flushed it, or did it fill at all.
Wrong flapper maybe not closing.
Then pulling the handle up to stop filling the bowl. ????? How's that for added confusion.

Without pics, I can imaging the flush valve is not installed correctly, and allowed to float up to shut off the water, allowing the fill tube to overflow into the bowl. Just a guess based on OP's description.

Sorry, but I don't understand. Even if the water is constantly going down the fill tube, how would that cause the bowl to fill up rather than flushing?

If you had to pull the handle up to stop the water then the flush valve is not setting back down on the seat after flushing.

On a standard toilet, the handle only controls the flapper. Given what the OP said about raising the handle to stop the water running into the bowl, I'll also go with chain doesn't have enough slack to allow the flapper to fully seat.

A month has gone by and never another word from the OP. Appears that we'll never know what his/her problem was. Hopefully they didn't get flushed down the toilet.:p
