So I have a single knob shower faucet that is leaking bad. I dont see any brand name on it or any info at all. I want to fix it but have no clue on what part i need for the core. Also i removed the center screw from the handle and it doesn't come off. Could it just be stuck or is there something im missing. Any help or step by step would be a great help

try removing the handle and plate and see if there are "integral stops" that means you can shut off just the shower....then you can remove the cartridge and bring it to A PLUMBING SUPPLY HOUSE not hd or lowes…...if you don't feel comfortable doing that take this pic withyou they maybe able to identify it

sometime if the handle is a white metal....it can fuse itself the stem spraying it with a little vinegar or some time tapping the handle may loosen it up

so I should spray from the backside of the knob and try to work it loose? also would pb blaster be safe to use without staining or damaging the bathtub or tile? The gate valve for the bathroom shut off wont turn. looks like a normal outdoor hose type shut off handle. is there any tricks to getting it to turn?

if you grab the handle of the gate with pliers or if you can stick a screw driver thru the handle work the handle back and forth you will hear the wedge moving around
you can free it …...not sure what pb blaster would to to tiles you could get a little flux brush and use that to apply the vineager or pb blaster

I think it's a MOEN.
does the tube behind the handle have a small raised rail on the top of tube like one in the photo?

work the handle. . Break it off.
is the 2 screws holding plate ? one at 5 0'clock and another at 7 ?

You might have and old brass type core and you may need a specialized puller to remove it.
If it'd a plastic core like a 1225B then most of time you can pull them with a pair of pliers

yea it has the excat same sleeve with the hump in it facing the bottom of the tub

Hold a rag around the handle and spray from the back and inside where the screw was. Don't get anything on the tile
if you can help it. Let it set a while and then try to work it off. Once off, take the round face plate off and then send
another picture and we will go from there.

So I got it apart and the clip out but the core wont slide out any more then it has any ideas? and what kinda of core?IMAG0256.jpg IMAG0257.jpg

Are you using a cartridge puller. If not you are going to pull the stem out of that cartridge and
the rest is very hard and sometimes impossible to get out.

If that's a brass cartridge and hasn't been replaced in a while take extra care when trying to move the cartridge
back and forth with the tabs. They will break if you get rough. Try squirting some penetrating fluid that
will get to the O-rings. If its a plastic one they are easier to get out. Good Luck... Let us know how you did.
