Hi All.

I just have a unit installed. Do I really need to have a discharge pipe installed?

The tank is filled with water and air has been purged. The TP relief valve is installed. If pressure gets to high I assume I would see leak from the valve. It’s at a small business and flooring is tile so a small amount of water on the floor is not a problem and the unit would be turned off when we’re not there. The installation would require additional piping across a room.

Also the instructions say to relieve the valve once a month but at the risk of messing up the valve. So is that necessary?

Did A plumber install it. Doesn't he/she know the answer to that?
Ask the local plumbing inspector.
Or are just curious if it's recommended from a recommended/logical standpoint?
I didn't see where they mention anything about relieving the valve once a month but at the risk of messing up the valve, in the installation manual. I did see, "
Tankless water heaters such as the Mini™ are not required
to be equipped with a Pressure and Temperature Relief Valve
(except in Massachusetts).

My plumber suggested not installing the discharge pipe but I’m not sure if he has a lot of experience using this unit or just general experience with water heater.

The instruction manual did specify the discharge pipe and TP valve relief but I’m not sure if this is just manufacturer being cautiously over the top.

As mentioned above the manual I saw on line, said you didn't need one. Must be a different manual.
I would check with manufacturer and if not required, eliminate it.
