I have a AW42-01 WATER SOURCE tank and need to replace the air volume control. How important is it that I put on a AV42 valve? And explain what a AV80 valve would do on my 42 gallon tank...thanks

Those are air volume controls for a pressure tank using a jet pump. Looks like the AV42 is made for a 42 gallon tank and the AV80 is made for an 80 gallon tank. The AV80 is larger and will let more air in for each pump cycle, but that shouldn't hurt anything. You just would not want to put the AV42 on the 80 gallon tank.

Be advised that air volume controls work well on shallow well jet pumps. Deep well pumps go to pressure as soon as they turn on so there is no real vacuum to pull the diaphragm back to let in air. The deeper the water level, the less air they can get to a point where they don't work at all. That's another reason for the bladder tank.
