I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and my home is constructed on pilings. The entire first floor is open to the elements and is used by me to work on my boat, cars etc etc. I want to a very small room where I can put a toilet. Potable water is readily available and the 4 inch sewer line is just outside the footprint of the house.

My question is: If I install a toilet and connect it to the existing sanitary line, do I need a vent. If I do need a vent, is there a way to not have to run a vent line 2 stories high.

Thank you Macgyver. That helps alot. One other question. Do I need to install something like a Studor Mini Vent at the top of the vent line to keep it from stinking?
