I noticed a slight draining problem this morning and (since I am paranoid) immediately thought I had a septic tank drain field issue. I opened the tank cover outside and can see the outlet baffle and scum layer is below it. I have a system from 1978, so the baffle area looks like a toilet bowl to me. I figured since i can see that, things are getting to the d-box and drainfield ok.

So, now I suspect some kind of obstruction on the inlet side. My wife is a city girl who likes the extra thick paper, even though I tell her we cannot use that with septic system. With that in mind, I think I may have a slight blockage in the inlet line and will need to get it snaked or jetted.

Does my line of thinking make some amount of sense? Basically, outlet baffle is visible, so problem in on inlet side of tank.

Thanks!
Jeff
