Hi Everyone

First off, great forum, lots of information.

I just purchased a cabin in the spring that has an old septic system, never any issues with it as far as I know.

We are not able to leave the water on over the winter due to not being able to visit as much, having no constant heat source other than a wood stove, and the way it is plumbed.

We do intend to visit on weekends or holidays throughout the winter, and plan to haul any water we need with us.

My question is if I can still flush the toilet in the winter time while we are out there, using the water we bring - making sure to winterize the toilet again when we leave. Would this create any issues with the septic, occasional use only in the winter?

You will be fine as long as you don't have the tank pumped just before cold weather hits. The bacteria in the tank produces enough heat to prevent it from freezing.
