Hi all,

My kitchen sink (double sink with dishwasher connected to garbage disposal) is vented via an AAV. I've noticed that, when washing dishes by hand, dish soap suds overflow out of the AAV underneath. This created some funky gunk inside of it. I finally detached it today and was horrified at what I found:

I'm soaking the AAV in a bucket of bleach water as I type, and am prepared to purchase a new one if this is a sign the current one is broken. Is it normal for soap suds to overflow out of it? What do I need to do to prevent it?

^^All of that gunk on the bottom of it was a ring of gelatinous matrix that quickly washed away when sprayed by the garden hose. ::shudder::
