if i cut that coupling in half. can i still screw a nipple into the coupling

from this side.?

i do not see why not,,but have never done it

any ya'll know?

So you would be threading into the backside of the other female threads?

yes,,, i would be threading into the coupling from the middle/ backside

where i cut it in half

coupling sticking out to far,,i want to shorten it up

You may have a problem catching the threads because of the tapered threads in the coupling.

If you can thread something from the other side all the way through to help straighten the threads it will work. Or if you get a clean cut it should also work fine, you may just have to fight with it at first to get it threaded.

You should have cut it first and then welded the cut end on. Live and learn.

If you have a tap you can chase it with it should work but who has a tap for IP threads?

I have 1/8'' and 1/4'' npt taps but no 1/2

yes, I should have cut it and flipped it first..

never tried this before
