Hi, I have a bathroom in the basement that was missing the drain setup. Not really plumbing savvy so bear with me. I been back and forth to home depot numerous times with no success. It seems that I'm missing a piece that I dont know of or modified the pipe too short. Please help.

All you need is a 1 1/4 extension 6 or 12 inches and a slip nut to attach to your s trap from you sink tail piece

As long as they are replacing a pre-existing s trap it is legal

it is really easy to add in an AAV, and will bring the installation up to code in most places, and will stop that annoying sewer smell that an s trap tends to bring.

Phish, is it possible to draw up a rough sketch on how to eliminate the s trap and include an AAV?

The tailpiece is right there.

No where in the USA. You touch it, it has to be replaced up to code. Now, the HO can do whatever they want as long as it is not inspected. The S-trap will present possible health hazards for the family though.
