estimate cost

have a leak where two pipes in baseboard heat join together. need someone to come and drain system, fix leaky connection and fill system back up. can someone estimate the cost of that repair for me? money is real tight around the holidays and dont want to get ripped off!!!

Well not to sound rude....but the estimate should be coming from whoever you're going to hire to do the work. Call a local plumber.

Get more then two estimates if over 200

This is the most common consumer mistake. Using the price you paid to determine whether or not you got ripped off, is a guarantee that you are going to get ripped off.

The lowest price is almost NEVER the least expensive repair.

WHY? does everybody think that plumbers are out to rip them off?

had a friend, she asked me to fix her tub. I did, then when I handed her a bill,

for the op, different areas of the USA, charge different prices. if i tell you i would charge $500.00
your plumber might charge you $750.00
different area, different tax , operating cost, wage..

I think there are two major reasons.

1. Because so many plumbers do rip people off with shoddy workmanship.

2. The role Plumbers have played in fostering the dishonest and confusing use of the term "labor" in relation to billing.

old plumber, had a company called PTL [Praise the Lord]
He went to a fellas house to fix a leak under the house. he fixed it
handed the old Dude a bill.
He said I aint paying the damn Bill, If you had fixed it right the first time
It would not be leaking now!!!
Plumber, looked puzzled, asked him you sure it was me?
old Dude, Hell Yes, 15 years ago you fixed it.
if you had done it right, It would not be leaking!!
Plumber said, sir, You have to pay this bill, Or I will put a contractors lean on your house.

One other thing that is obvious

Can't fix stupid. Hopefully old dude died soon as well.
