Default Retrofit Bathtub Drain Pipe

I'm replacing my bathtub. The existing drain pipes for the tub are brass. Both, the overflow drain and bottom drain are pipes are adjustable with compression fittings. I had to cut out (with a grinder) the bottom drain pipe. I only had to cut the part that is extendable (the piece that actually connects to the tub). I need to replace this part but cant find a brass drain pipe for tubs. My question is, can I connect a PVC pipe to the brass pipe and use a compression fitting? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It would require purchasing the entire waste and overflow that Mr. David mentioned, but I have seen brass tub drain waste and overflow kits in Home Depot (Lake Mary Home Depot to be exact) some years ago.
