I got a sewer camera from amazon and was able to capture an image of a blue plastic thing that block a drain pipe from the basement heading out towards the street.

I thought this might be the cause of the drain backup from the street. I used an auger to try to remove the plastic item but all it did was made small rips. I am not certain anymore if i should remove this item. If someone know what it its please advise.

Thanks.

Is it in your pipe or where your pipe connects to the city sewer?

maybe it's a membrane they use to reline the main and they did not trim it or it was debris that got pushed up its your line.
My sewer cleaning equip will eat a hole through that.
Call a pro with equip that will do the job.

i just re read your thread....i just ran into the same thing.....at work couple of years ago there was a large drain repipe....they used epoxy coated cast iron
no hub pipe.....well the excessive hot water from commercial kitchen is melting the epoxy from the inside of the pipe....we now have to camera the whole drain....that might also be whats happening to yoy.....
