Hi everyone,

I hope you are well and having a good weekend?

I would like to get your opinion on an issue I am facing with the kitchen tap in the house I am currently renting.

The tap makes a very loud engine sound. When this happens, it vibrates vigorously and water spills out of the tap for the duration of the sound, even if the tap is off. The issue occurs when the flat above uses their water and when I use the bathroom sink. The engine sound and the vibration also happen when I use the cold water from the kitchen tap itself (it's a mixer tap).

I have recently found out that pressing my hand against the hot water dial stops the sound and the vibration, which made me think perhaps there is an issue with the washer in the hot water dial. However my landlord disagrees and thinks all we have to do is lower the water pressure.

I should also mention that the kitchen tap drips and pressing my hand against the hot water dial makes the tap drip slower.

I would love to hear your opinion on this issue. Is it really a matter of water pressure?

(I took some videos of the tap for more clarity)

I look forward to hearing from you!

Take the hot side apart. If it has a washer and screw on the end of the stem then tighten it up. If not then replace the cartridge. I would do both sides. Make sure you turn off the water to both sides to check this out.

Hi all,

Thanks for your feedback. Changing the tap seems to have fixed the issue. I will update the post if things change.

Very best,
Gio
