I have a one pipe steam system with cast iron radiator (house built in 1928).
One of the radiator has been removed since I bought the house and the valve is leaking "steam" in the winter. As I do not intend to put a radiator there, I want to cap the pipe coming out of the floor (pipe is not copper). I managed to remove the brass valve and could only find galvanized cap in my hardware store (I need 1" 1/4).
Would it be a problem to cap the pipe with a galvanized steel cap? I could not find a brass one (need to still search online). They also have black steel but not sure the difference.
Any advice?
Thanks
