The handle in my shower broke in half. I just want to replace it for a short time because we are having the bathroom redone in a few months. I took the piece that broke to the store but none of the replacement pieces matched. I am now thinking that I need to take another piece off and replace the whole thing. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Also, is this something I can do at 5 months pregnant?

If you are nearly ready to redo the bathroom, a simple short-term solution is to use a pair of vice grips and just leave them gripped onto the valve. It's not pretty, but keeps the shower functional until you rip it all out.

There should be a set screw on the bottom side of the larger gold piece. You would loosen that with an allen wrench and then everything should just slide off.
